Appointees and Nominees

ABC’s nominating committee has finalized the 2018 officer and director appointments and director nominations. Congratulations to Katie Leonard, BDR Partners, for her appointment to the executive committee as vice chairman. Congratulations as well to Neil Dostie, Greystar Development and Construction, who was appointed as owner-developer director, and to Shawn Jones, Southern Mechanical Contractors, for his appointment as non-GC director.

Six additional 2018 board directors will be elected by ABC of Georgia member companies - one vote per company. Below you will find biographies for each appointee and nominee.

Vice Chairman

KATIE LEONARD serves as Vice President at BDR Partners, providing owner’s representative and project management services for healthcare and higher education sectors throughout the Southeast. Holding a Bachelor of Sciences degree in Building Construction from Georgia Institute of Technology, Katie brings over 15 years of construction management to large, complex projects. Whether it is a $300M laboratory, a $100M private detention center, or a $10M courthouse renovation, Katie is a leader in complex facility management, field operations, cost and risk analysis, and procurement. Katie is also a sought-after speaker on the topics of construction management and procurement.

Prior to BDR, Katie gained over 11 years of construction management experience as Purchasing Manager for Turner Construction, where she was responsible for procurement and delivery.

For the past 15 years, Katie has been active member of the ABC community, recently serving on the 2017 Board of Directors. Currently, she serves on the Georgia Institute of Technology Construction Advisory Board for the College of Civil Engineering, and on the Executive Board for the College of Building Construction.

Neil Dostie, Greystar Development and Construction, will serve as Appointed Owner/Developer Director.

NEIL DOSTIE serves as a Director for Greystar Development and Construction. Neil’s resume represents more than 30 years of industry experience and a broad range of responsibility on over $1 billion worth of construction, in markets such as aviation, healthcare, hospitality, industrial, multi-family and public assembly. Neil has worked in the Atlanta market for the past ten years, and has been active in ABC of Georgia since 2010.

 Neil has chaired the Membership Development Committee and served on the ABC Board of Directors in 2015, where he actively supported ABC and worked to grow the local chapter. Neil regularly attends Meet & Greet the General Contractors, Future Member luncheons, and ABC social and sporting events.

He believes that ABC is all about networking and connecting with the best construction professionals, and is committed to helping members benefit from their affiliation with ABC of Georgia. Neil is a Civil Engineer from the University of Michigan and is a LEED AP+ BD&C and Associate DBIA. He also holds contactor’s licenses in three states. Neil lives in Roswell with his wife Laurie and their two children.


Shawn Jones, Southern Mechanical Contractors, will serve as Appointed Non-GC Director.

SHAWN JONES is an owner and Vice President in charge of Pre-Construction at Southern Mechanical Contractors. He has been with Southern since 1996, and has served in multiple roles over that 20-year period. Shawn has worked on and secured a wide variety of projects in the Industrial and Commercial markets including Plants, Labs, Food Service, Jails and Higher Education. He has been in charge of the Pre-Construction Department at Southern since 2004.

Since attending his first New Member Reception in 2006, Shawn has been a very active member of ABC. He has attended many events over the years, including Opens Houses, Holiday Auctions, Meet and Greets, Networking Events, Clay Shoots, and Chili Cook-offs. Southern Mechanical’s diverse involvement has won them multiple awards since 2006, including STEP, Excellence in Construction, and the Chili Cook-off. Shawn is currently involved with the Member Development Committee and serves as an Ambassador at ABC functions.

Shawn and his wife, Dawn, have been married for over 15 years and are raising their family in Lawrenceville. Shawn attended the University of Georgia and is a big college football fan. Other hobbies include travel, deep sea fishing, and driving his Jeep.

Candidates for five open 2-year terms (January 2018 – December 2019) on the Board of Directors are: Nick Christoffersen (JE Dunn Construction Company); Mark Cleverly (McCarthy Building Companies); Robert Maddux (KDC Real Estate Development & Investments); Naren Patel (Alpha Insulation & Waterproofing); Adam Pearlman (Southeast Concreate Systems); David Sikes (Fox Building Company); Ana Maria Taroco (Balfour Beatty Construction); and Rico Washington (Construction Works).



NICK CHRISTOFFERSEN serves as a project manager for JE Dunn Construction’s Atlanta division. He has been instrumental in the success of the company’s entrance into the aviation market, including helping secure projects for the City of Atlanta Department of Aviation, Atlanta Airlines Terminal Corporation (AATC) and Delta Air Lines.

Nick has more than a decade of experience in commercial construction. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Construction Management from Georgia Southern University and is a LEED Accredited Professional. He is OSHA 30-hour as well as CPR trained. Prior to joining JE Dunn in 2013, Nick worked for Manhattan Construction, where he served on a wide variety of commercial project types.

In his spare time, Nick enjoys golfing, boating, a wide variety of fitness activities and attending all types of sporting events. He currently resides in Roswell with his wife Kimberly, their five-month old son, Hudson, and their Goldendoodle, Murphy.


MARK CLEVERLY
, McCarthy Building Companies. Raised in the suburbs of London, UK, and a graduate of Anglia Polytechnic University with a degree in Quantity Surveying, Mark has over 23 years of construction experience.

During his time in the UK, Mark worked for several large UK General Contractors in both preconstruction and project management. He was involved in multiple markets, the majority being a Design Build delivery method. In 2007, he formed a program management / cost consultancy business, providing cost and contract management solutions to owners, GCs and subcontractors, as well as dispute resolution services, before emigrating to the U.S. in 2012.

Mark began working with McCarthy Building Companies’ Southeast Division in 2013, where he currently serves as Preconstruction Director, covering Healthcare, Higher Education, Industrial and Renewable Energy markets. Mark is a Certified Professional Estimator, having achieved certified status with American Society of Professional Estimators in 2016.

An active member of ABC, Mark is currently the chair of the Membership Development Committee, and has served as a committee member since 2014. Mark is also a regular participant at ABC events.

Mark resides in Acworth with his wife of 7 years, Heather, and two young sons, Leo (4) and Luca (2). Outside of work Mark likes to play guitar (badly), watch Premier League Soccer and spend time with his family


ROBERT MADDUX, KDC Real Estate Development & Investment. As an Atlanta native, Robert has been excited to participate in Atlanta’s explosive growth. His construction career began early with summer jobs, working on projects such as the Concourse Towers and the Merchandise Mart. After graduating from Purdue University, he worked with leading contractors including R.J. Griffin and Company, J.E. Dunn and Genoa Construction.

In 2005, Robert transitioned into real estate development at Pope and Land Enterprises as Development Manager for major vertical mixed-use projects. In 2014, he joined Dallas-based developer KDC as Vice President of Design & Construction for the State Farm project at Park Center HUB.

Robert is a Roswell resident and has always been very active in his community. As a general contractor, he was a member of ABC, and with the development of an Owner/Developer category in ABC, KDC Real Estate and Investments has become one of the first companies to join ABC under that membership division. Robert is running for a second term, having served on the ABC of Georgia Board of directors from 2016-2017.


NAREN PATEL, Vice President, Southeast Region, joined the Alpha Insulation and Waterproofing team in April 1999 and serves as the Southeast regional manager. Naren started his career with a prominent international construction management and design firm. He has over 20 years of industry experience and currently oversees the sales and general operations of Alpha’s Charlotte, Nashville, Atlanta, Miami and Orlando offices. In addition, he has served on several construction industry boards, including the ABC of Georgia board from 2016-2017.

Naren and Alpha are huge supporters of ABC through programs such as Future Leaders and bringing "home" numerous safety and Excellence in Construction awards.

A graduate of the University of Florida with a Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Naren is an active member at First Woodstock Church and enjoys overseas missions work. He, his wife, Charlotte, and their three beautiful daughters live in Marietta.


ADAM PEARLMAN co-purchased Southeast Concrete Systems, Inc., in 2015 and, as CEO, is responsible for leading all company activities including customer relations, business development, estimating, project execution, vendor relations, strategic planning, safety, compliance, and other critical business functions.

Adam has over 26 years of experience in the construction industry, including retail, mixed use, office, industrial, manufacturing, automotive, hospitality and entertainment. He earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Building Construction from the University of Florida and remains a staunch supporter of both the university’s academic and sports programs. He holds a General Contractor’s License in seven states around the Southeast as well as a Real Estate License in Georgia and North Carolina.

Adam has been an ABC member since 1991 in multiple states and has served on the Board in the Carolina’s Chapter as well as the Georgia Chapter (2016-2017). Adam relocated to Greater Atlanta 3 ½ years ago with his wife and two children, settling into John’s Creek, where they are enjoying golf, tennis, and creating new friendships.

DAVID SIKES serves as Vice President for Fox Building Company, Inc., where he has worked for 10 years. A graduate of the University of Georgia with a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Management, David transitioned into construction from a different industry, joining Fox Building Company, Inc., as an Assistant Superintendent. He has held several roles during his time with Fox, from Assistant Project Manager and Project Manager to Sales Manager and Vice President. He currently oversees estimating, business development, and all field activities for Fox Building Company, Inc.

Fox Building Company has been an active member of ABC over 30 years, and David has been involved in ABC during his 10 years with Fox. He is a 2016 ABC Future Leaders graduate and has volunteered his time to help with the 2017 class.

Outside of work, David enjoys time with his wife and kids with their various activities. Along with their sports, the family’s favorite pastime is camping. David and his family are active members of 12Stone Church, and are currently in the process of adopting their second daughter.


ANA MARIA TAROCO is a Senior Project Manager with Balfour Beatty Construction, and has more than a decade of experience in the construction industry. Ana Maria has overseen multiple projects in the public sector and provided direction for on-site project management teams for projects in the aviation, K-12, higher education, and high containment labs market segments. She is a graduate of the Georgia Institute of Technology and is a LEED AP+ BD&C.

Ana Maria has been an active member of the Associated Builders and Contractors since 2010, serving as Chairman of the Education Committee from 2012-2013 and on the Board of Directors from 2016-2017. She serves as a lead instructor for ABC’s Construction Academy, serves on the Education Committee and attends many ABC functions.


ENRICO WASHINGTON is VP of Operations of Construction Works, Inc., located in Lithonia, GA. CWI is a general contracting/construction management organization that provides construction services on public and private projects in the corporate, faith-based, government, K-12, and higher education sectors.

Enrico has over 25 years of experience in the construction industry. As vice president, Enrico is responsible for the execution of the organization’s strategic plan by overseeing operations, developing functional roles among team members and delegating responsibilities to his direct reports.

Enrico has served as project manager and division manager for various construction firms. Past projects include Center for Disease Control campuses in Chamblee and Atlanta; Children’s Harbor Center in Birmingham; Honda Manufacturing of Alabama; University of Alabama, Birmingham; MARTA Headquarters in Atlanta; and Miller Grove Middle School in Decatur.

Enrico is a graduate of the ABC Alabama Chapter’s Apprentice Program (Sheetmetal, 1999), so his commitment to the association goes back many years. An active member of ABC, Enrico serves on the Education and Membership Development committees and on the Legislative Task Group. He believes that as a leader, he is responsible for serving first, and currently serves as Chairman of Keep Cobb Beautiful. Beyond work, Enrico is a professional tennis coach who works with student-athletes in the metropolitan area. He resides in Marietta with his wife Melissa and their two boys, Cody and Enrico, II.
