ABC of Georgia Wins National Award for Safety Excellence

In the spirit of safety excellence (since our annual Safety Awards takes place on  Monday, June 8), we’d  like to share with you ABC of Georgia’s chapter award for  safety excellence. The  Georgia chapter takes top honors as the Southeast Region  leader for STEP participation.Look for a press release soon regarding 2015 STEP winners!

The Boelter Companies Acquires Direct South

In a press release published last month, Eric Boelter, President of The Boelter Companies, Inc., announced the acquisition of Macon-based (and ABC of Georgia member), Direct South, Inc.

Direct South has been a member of ABC since 2010 and provides food service equipment and design services to the construction industry.

KSU(formerly SPSU) Educator, Maureen Wiedner, Wins National MCAA Educator of the Year

Kennesaw State University (formerly Southern Polytechnic State University) lecturer, Maureen Wiedner, was named Educator of the Year by National MCAA, the Mechanical Contractors Association of America. Wiedner is the faculty advisor for numerous student organizations at KSU including the ABC Student Chapter.

Champion Spotlight - JAMCo, Inc.

In honor of  his great contributions to the organization as an instructor and leader, ABC will dedicate its training center in David’s name on June 19, 2015 at ABC of Georgia Headquarters (8975 Roswell Road, Atlanta, GA 30350).

ABC member Balfour Beatty Construction named Contractor of the Year by ENR

Contractor of the Year by Engineering News-Record (ENR), the preeminent
magazine for the construction industry. ENR made the announcement on May

ABC Board Member, Katie Leonard, Addresses the Workforce Shortage in Construction

Katie Leonard (BDR Partners), ABC board member, recently wrote an article regarding the workforce shortage in the construction industry and how that risk can be managed.

“It is one of the hottest topics in the industry at this time. Construction is picking up and the demand for skilled labor is far exceeding the current supply.  BDR continues to stay in tune with current market conditions.  We want to protect our clients and the success of current and future projects.  As program managers, we have to bring all our expertise and marketplace knowhow to every project as well as active engagement and a deep understanding of the core issues and current conditions driving or inhibiting success. Understanding the industry issues and current conditions is critical to managing the risk.
