CONSTRUCTION'S WORKFORCE CRISIS: ATTRACTING AND RETAINING UNTAPPED TALENT
Each year, ABC's Education Committee chooses an industry trend to focus on. In 2017, we hosted Belling the Cat: Moving from talk to action in the Millennial Conversation. This workshop attendees learned who their Millennial colleagues are, the opportunities every organization has to leverage their strengths, and how to develop a corporate culture they will want to be a part of.

This year we will tackle another segment of our population that has traditionally been underrepresented in our industry - women and minorities. With mounting pressure on our limited human resources, we must find better and smarter ways to attract good workers of both genders, as well as minorities, and retain those we hire. This symposium will help uncover implicit biases that could be getting in the way and explore ways for companies to evaluate their culture to uncover the "hidden" components that could be hindering their ability to attract and retain often-overlooked talent.

Panelists include:
  • Margaret Rauber, Vice President Operations, The Winter Construction Company
  • Laura Ashby, Attorney, Miller & Martin PLLC
  • Khalid Siddiqi, Professor and Chairman, Construction Management Department, College of Architecture and Construction Management, Kennesaw State University
  • Facilitator: Cynthia Mills, President & CEO, The Leaders' Haven
